Is it Time to Rethink Your Dream?

Clouds Sky

How do you know when it is time to rethink your dream? Should you ever stop chasing your dreams? These are questions I am sure that you have asked yourself a million times. Sometimes we hit a roadblock in life that throws us so off course that we don’t know whether or not to get back on track and try again or to let it go. Before you let go of that dream you have been holding onto, ask yourself a few important questions before taking that leap of faith or letting your dreams die.

Why is this your dream?

There is an outcome you were reaching for when you created this dream. Maybe it was a goal of losing weight. Or maybe it was a goal you set in your career. Whatever the case, ask yourself if it is still important to you. And will it be worth it in the end? If the answer is yes then keep moving forward.

Don’t Waste Time Planning

Have you ever known someone who plans so much that they waste time planning what they could have already done. Sit back and look at your efforts. Have you truly given this dream all your effort? Are you sitting around waiting for that opportune moment in time to just catch you and show you the way? Chances are, that wont happen and sometimes you have to stop planning and start working towards that goal.

Is it Realistic?

Most of us have dreams or desires that we knew would never happen, but still wanted to happen. But that doesn’t mean it’s the smartest thing. Take into consideration who else is involved in these decisions. Does your dream depend on a complete career change or a move to another state? Do you have a family to support that would be affected by this? It’s great to have dreams but set a realistic goal according to your own lifestyle.

Has There Been Progress?

Have you successfully completed steps in your life in order to progress closer to your dream or are you still stuck on the same landing spot? Is your dream in sight? If you have been struggling to obtain this dream so much that you have been running in circles, it might be time to consider giving it up or changing the dream. Remember, it’s okay to dream but while you are stuck in the same spot you could be fulfilling a more feasible goal.

Take Your Own Advice

How would you advise a friend who had come to you with a similar issue? Is this something you would encourage someone else to do? Sometimes seeing things from a different perspective helps to put your dreams in perspective. Many times we see things differently for ourselves than others do and start to look at things with a biased opinion.

Scale Your Dream Down

Sometimes you don’t have to give up your dream altogether. Maybe it’s just a matter of scaling it down. Is your dream to buy a fancy, flashy sports car but you have a large family to take care and can’t afford it? Scale it down. Settle for a sportier model of a family sedan and you will still feel just as accomplished. Sometimes it’s realizing that your idea of your dream can be transformed into something just as rewarding.
